Nigerian midfielder, Alex Iwobi has opened up on the differences in managerial approach between Carlo Ancelotti and Arsène Wenger.
Reflecting on his experience, Iwobi explained that Ancelotti often delegated training responsibilities to his son, Davide Ancelotti, while taking a more observational role.
“There is a big difference in the sense of their managerial style,” the Nigerian midfielder stated.
“Obviously, when it was announced that Carlo Ancelotti was coming to Everton, everyone said this can’t be real. Then when he pulled up to the canteen the Italian swag, the suit, blazer, and the one eyebrow thing he does everyone was looking.
“But he is not as hands-on as Arsène Wenger. He normally takes control of training a day or two before the game.
“Most times, it is his son Davide who organizes the sessions and does the talking. Mostly, he is just on the side watching; he isn’t really hands-on, so I had to learn that.
“But he was actually calm and cool he would talk to you if he wants to. He was a nice guy.”

Iwobi played under Ancelotti at Everton for one and a half seasons, from December 2019 until the Italian’s departure in June 2021.
During that period, the midfielder made 45 appearances and experienced notable development in his game.
Under Ancelotti’s guidance, Iwobi improved his efficiency in the final third, with a stronger focus on decision making and creating better chances for teammates after beating defenders.
The Italian also utilized him in multiple positions, including right wing-back, left wing-back, and right midfield, which enhanced his tactical flexibility and defensive awareness.
