Nigerian striker Terem Moffi has reflected on Hamburger SV’s sensational 3-2 comeback victory over Hoffenheim, highlighting both his team’s tenacity and the overwhelming backing from traveling fans.

The dramatic triumph marked only Hamburg’s second Bundesliga win this season. Following a morale-boosting victory over FC Köln before the international pause, this latest result has steered the club clear of the relegation zone and lifted them up to 11th place.

Hamburg grabbed an early lead in the 12th minute through Yussuf Poulsen, who was selected in the starting lineup ahead of Moffi. However, Hoffenheim leveled proceedings before the interval when Sebastiaan Bornauw inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. The hosts then surged ahead early in the second half through Bambase Conte, but their momentum was halted in the 65th minute when defender Bernardo was sent off.

Moffi, having entered the fray just minutes before the red card, seized the moment by dispatching an 83rd-minute equalizer to open his account for HSV. Full-back Miro Muheim, who set up the Nigerian forward’s strike, then netted a dramatic winner deep into added time to complete the turnaround.

Reflecting on his match-altering contribution, Moffi expressed deep pride in the squad’s perseverance. He credited Muheim’s delivery for setting up his goal and explained that once the score was level, the belief within the squad never wavered that all three points were attainable.

The forward also made special mention of the vocal Hamburg faithful who packed the away end, calling the passion of the traveling supporters incredible and voicing his appreciation for their unwavering encouragement during the clash.

Hamburg head coach Merlin Polzin echoed those sentiments, applauding the team’s collective character and praising the decisive impact made by his substitutes, particularly Moffi.

Having completed a permanent switch to Germany during the summer transfer window, Moffi will now be pushing for a starting spot when Hamburg host Stuttgart next weekend, hoping to keep their winning streak alive.
